To­day, painters, po­ets and jazz mu­si­cians of T&T will once again en­ter­tain au­di­ences at Syn­er­gia. This time, how­ev­er, the stage and the cause will be big­ger. The event takes place at the Na­tion­al Acad­e­my for the Per­form­ing Arts (NA­PA) and will raise funds to help lo­cal artistes take part in the In­ter­na­tion­al Spo­ken Word Fes­ti­val in Nairo­bi, Kenya. En­ti­tled Syn­er­gia: a Fu­sion of Art, Jazz and Po­et­ry-The Fund-rais­er, the show is geared to­wards en­abling our Trin­bag­on­ian spo­ken word per­form­ers to show their tal­ent at the fes­ti­val, which is sched­uled for Oc­to­ber 19 and 20. Event or­gan­is­ers Rachael Col­ly­more and Po­et­ic Vibes have brought to­geth­er a cross-sec­tion of artistes to en­sure that pa­trons of Syn­er­gia en­joy the show.

"This event fo­cus­es on the pow­er of words and show­cas­es lo­cal tal­ents in spo­ken word, art and mu­sic," ex­plained Col­ly­more. "It is about us­ing words as change agents. Whether it means host­ing shows like Syn­er­gia or work­ing to raise funds so that our artistes can per­form in­ter­na­tion­al­ly, our goal is to make sure their voic­es are heard." The list of per­form­ers for Syn­er­gia in­cludes fea­tured spo­ken word artistes, Bren­don and Bran­don O'Brien, and Leel Bain; sto­ry­teller Theodo­ra Ulerie (Aun­ty Thea); and vi­su­al artist Fitzroy Hoyte.

The ros­ter of mu­si­cians that will take part in the show in­clude Mikhail Sal­cedo (steel­pan), Mod­upe Onilu (per­cus­sion), Shan­non Lewis (per­cus­sion), Kyle Pe­ters (acoustic gui­tar), Gre­go­ry Pan­tin (acoustic gui­tar), Je­re­my Mc In­tosh (bass) and more. Guest artistes in­clude: Nisa No­ra (vo­cal­ist), Kee­gan Ma­haraj (spo­ken word), Janique Den­nis (spo­ken word) and Kepha Yah­seph (vo­cal­ist), among oth­ers. Syn­er­gia: a Fu­sion of Art, Jazz and Po­et­ry-The Fund-rais­er starts at 6.30 pm. The con­tri­bu­tion is $200 (two on one) and $120 (in­di­vid­ual). En­trance will cost more at the door.
