The Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival (TTFF) is continuing its drive to develop the local film industry, with a workshop aimed at letting local practitioners benefit from international experience.Cameron Bailey, co-director of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), will speak at a workshop and film screening to be held at Hilton Trinidad and Conference Centre today, from 1-5 pm.Presented by Flow, the event will be an interactive workshop for filmmakers and others interested in the film and television industry. It also takes place in association with the Trinidad & Tobago Coalition of Service Industries (TTCSI). The workshop forms part of National Services Week, which began on October 31 and ends tomorrow.
Bailey will share his extensive knowledge of a number of topics, including private and state support for developing a film and television industry; how TIFF and other major international film festivals work; and the marketing and distribution of films.Born in London to Caribbean parents, Bailey grew up in England and Barbados before immigrating to Canada. He has been a film programmer for TIFF for more than 12 years, and has been responsible for the annual selection of films from Africa, South Asia and the Philippines.
In 2010-2011 Bailey was co-chair of the Arts & Culture Working Group of Toronto's Civic Action. He was also a member of the Creative Capital group that prepared a Mayor's report on Toronto's cultural sector. He is a former board member of the Ontario Film Development Corporation, and served on the advisory Board of the Royal Ontario Museum's Institute for Contemporary Culture.
After Bailey's presentation, there will be a screening of Ian Harnarine's Doubles with Slight Pepper, winner of the prize for best Canadian short film at the 2011 edition of TIFF.The TTFF is given leading sponsorship by RBC Royal Bank and is supported by the Trinidad & Tobago Film Company, the National Gas Company, the Tourism Development Company, bpTT and the Tobago House of Assembly.
