Holding claims of being "the oldest bar in the City of Port-of-Spain," Brooklyn Bar reopened on November 11 (11:11:11) at its original site, corner Carlos and Roberts Streets in Woodbrook.New owner Ronald Moses, who is also owner of the popular Ariapita Avenue hot spots Coco Lounge and Crobar, proudly proclaimed that the building is more than 100-years-old as he heaped praise on interior decor artist Jesslyn Sabga, owner of Jaid's Interior Design.
Jesslyn disclosed that she was assisted by Leeann Carter and Tara Bhaggan. This team succeeded at maintaining the vintage architectural appearance of the building. At the opening were many corporate folk, including Carib Brewery chairman Andrew Sabga; Carib's Miguel Marquez and Arlene Francis; Bryden's David Franco, Jason Charles and Joseph Robinson; Reza Mohammed, David Pantin, Ricardo Bideshi, and former Strike Squad footballer Maurice Alibey. Also in attendance were Sydney and Gloria Ammon.
Apart from the vivacious Carib Girls serving ice cold beers from what Moses described as "the largest drinks chiller in T&T" (with a capacity for 300 cases of beer), the other popular highlight on the evening was piping hot doubles served by George Doubles inside the bar.
While the new venue was being renovated a number of neighbouring residents voiced concerns however since its reopening. These concerns have been appeased by Moses who keeps the decibel levels on music quite low. In fact, a few of Brooklyn Bar's neighbours were not only in attendance at the opening but have since become regular customers.
