The hype that revolves around young entertainer Erphaan Alves is no fluke. The undisputed Junior Soca Monarch champion is being hailed as the breakout entertainer for 2012 Carnival as communicated in the infectious ditties he has penned, not just for himself, but for other monarchs as well. In Your Eyes and All Over Me were the two originals Alves has released so far, as part of the Carnival 2012 repertoire, in what promises to be a suite of wondrous hits. So when he was advertised on the cast for the November 15 instalment of Unplugged Tuesdays, held at Woodford Café, MovieTowne, located in Woodbrook, it came as no surprise that the masses turned out to celebrate his artistry.
Shal Marshall (Stephenson Marshall) and Umi Marcano also appeared on that playbill. It was Alves who turned the audience into his personal chorus during his delivery of In Your Eyes which is on the popular Antilles Riddim. Then came his rendition of All Over Me. No one knew he had a dancer for this song, so when comedienne Rachel Price jumped into the spotlight to gyrate on him, the audience went into a frenzy. Shal Marshall worked the crowd with his smash hit called Trouble. Marcano moved to sex things up during his time slot by removing his T-shirt, seemingly, to the delight of the females.
Alves was later reintroduced to the spotlight, to the delight of the audience, by Shal Marshall who announced that Alves would be giving them a taste of the songs written for other top artistes. All bright-eyed and bursting with energy Alves stood before his disciples and offered Doh Fraid, vocalised by reigning International Power (Soca) Monarch. Montano and Marvis Davis collaborated with Alves to compose this selection. Precision Wine which was being made popular by reigning Play Whe Groovy Soca Monarch Kees Dieffenthaller was also written by Alves, however, witness his performance of it was simply terrific.
