If you see me happy like posey is because I have just gotten my hands of the long-awaited CDs Tribute To Sparrow by Len "Boogsie" Sharpe, and one from the most hide-your-talent pannist on the planet Carlyle "Cat" Oliver called Music From The Highway of Life.
Cat has been playing the double seconds long before Boogsie climbed on top a box to play as a child, and is reported to be as old as Christopher Columbus. Legend has it that Carlyle Oliver greeted Columbus when he landed at Moruga.
Both men have done justice to pan music. The boogey man has taken the music to a next level on the Percussive Harmonic Instrument (PHI) pan. Holy Moses! The Tribute To Sparrow CD sweeter than honey. What I like about this CD is that each song is played in a different mood. I don't have a favourite, so please don't ask me.
There are Saltfish, Panman, Dan Is The Man, Royal Jail, Rose, Memories, Drunk And Disorderly, Congo Man, Education, Jane and Sa Sa Yea. All this music is dedicated to Boogsie's mentor, the late Pat Bishop. I am sure Pat is dancing wherever she is.
Now the list of credits for this CD will fill two newspapers. Now Mr Muzik cannot call everyone's name, I will finish on Christmas Day. However, one name that stands out is David Chow, the musical engineer.Look, run, walk fast, use a vine like Tarzan, bungie jump, use an air balloon or maxi taxi; just get this CD, it's beautiful.
