In what can only be described as the concert of a lifetime, international superstar Celine Dion thrilled thousands, moving many to tears as she performed at the 16th annual Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival at the Greenfield Stadium in Trelawny on Friday. Dion, who headlined the annual festival, took the stage just a little before midnight for her first Caribbean performance and gave a world class performance as she sizzled onstage. The Canadian singer was greeted with thunderous applause and loud cheers by patrons waiting in high anticipation, as she opened her performance with her chart-topping hit I Drove All Night. The Grammy winning megastar took time out to express her excitement at being in Jamaica, to perform for her fans.
Dion said: "It took us years to get here and tonight we are going to make up for all the years. This is the place of the great Bob Marley, the best place on the planet." During her performance Dion made four costume changes, ranging from a long charcoal coloured dress to a stunning mini. Dion went back in time, belting out chat topping hit such as Where Does My Heart Beat Now, Power of Love, Beauty and the Beast , Because You Love me and It's All Coming Back To Me Now. Dion invited Jamaican artiste Diana King to join her on stage for a performance of the popular reggae/pop song Treat Her Like A Lady. She closed her performance with her award winning song, My Heart Will Go On, from the blockbuster movie, Titanic much to the delight of the crowd.
Earlier in the evening, patrons enjoyed performances from Jamaicans artistes Tessanne Chin, Richie Stephens and Tami Chynn. New York Jazz singer Nicole Henry also thrilled the audience. On Saturday night T&T's soca diva Destra Garcia delivered an energetic performance at the festival.
