Stephon Scott, bar manager, and Karlina Permell, bartender, at the Magdalena Grand Beach Resort (http://www.MagdalenaGrand.com) in Tobago, took first and third place, respectively, at the Ketel One Diageo World Class Mixology Competition. Scott, the winner of the Ketel One heat of the Diageo Reserve World Class Competition, will go on to compete against the winner of the Johnnie Walker Blue Label heat and the winner of the Ron Zacapa Centenario heat to be held in June for participation in the Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender of the Year Final. Scott's winning drink was the "White Lady," a concoction made with Ketel One Vodka, lime juice, Grand Marnier and egg white, accented with cinnamon, nutmeg, rose petals and a strawberry/cherry berry blend. Permell took third place honors with her "Nolets Love," a rendition of the classic cocktail Caipirosca. The beverage featured a perfect balance of Ketel One Vodka, fresh pomegranate, grapefruit juice and sugar mounted in a martini glass.
The Diageo Reserve World Class Competition is aimed to inspire, educate and increase awareness to bartenders about Reserve brands in a culmination of a three-wave competition. The three wave winners will compete in a final competition in June with the overall winner going on to contend in the Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender of the Year Final to be held in July in Brazil with 48 countries and over 10,000 contestants represented. "The entire staff at Magdalena Grand Beach Resort would like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Stephon and Karlina on a grand performance at the Ketel One Diageo World Class Mixology challenge," said Joerg Wickihalder, executive assistant manager of the resort. "We wish Stephon the best of luck in the Diageo World Class Mixology finals and beyond," Wickihalder added.
