The final curtain on Couva Carnival 2012 celebrations will be raised today at its prize distribution and appreciation function at the Couva South Multi-Purpose Hall, starting at 4.30 pm. A release from the Couva Carnival Committee (CCC) said Couva enjoyed a hugely successful 2012 season, with the biggest crowds ever thronging the Couva Carnival Centre for its week-long celebrations. "We enjoyed sold-out crowds for our pre-Carnival shows and for the two days of the festival. Our prize distribution ceremony is really an appreciation for the people who made the event so special for everyone who came to Couva," said Ramchand Rajbal Maraj, chairman of the CCC.
Carnival 2012 also represented a milestone since it marked 20 years that the present committee has been in charge of its management. "We intend to honour those persons who have contributed to Couva Carnival over those years. Actually, those are the prized assets of our carnival," the CCC chairman said. He said the CCC prize structure enables almost everyone to get something for their efforts, however small. He thanked the National Carnival Commission and other benefactors for assisting in making the 2012 festivities a special occasion. Central Elite, portraying The many Moods of Love, will collect the Band of the Year trophy, while Rondell Donawa will receive his trophy for copping the Senior Calypso Monarch crown.
