The fi­nal cur­tain on Cou­va Car­ni­val 2012 cel­e­bra­tions will be raised to­day at its prize dis­tri­b­u­tion and ap­pre­ci­a­tion func­tion at the Cou­va South Mul­ti-Pur­pose Hall, start­ing at 4.30 pm. A re­lease from the Cou­va Car­ni­val Com­mit­tee (CCC) said Cou­va en­joyed a huge­ly suc­cess­ful 2012 sea­son, with the biggest crowds ever throng­ing the Cou­va Car­ni­val Cen­tre for its week-long cel­e­bra­tions. "We en­joyed sold-out crowds for our pre-Car­ni­val shows and for the two days of the fes­ti­val. Our prize dis­tri­b­u­tion cer­e­mo­ny is re­al­ly an ap­pre­ci­a­tion for the peo­ple who made the event so spe­cial for every­one who came to Cou­va," said Ram­c­hand Ra­jbal Maraj, chair­man of the CCC.

Car­ni­val 2012 al­so rep­re­sent­ed a mile­stone since it marked 20 years that the present com­mit­tee has been in charge of its man­age­ment. "We in­tend to ho­n­our those per­sons who have con­tributed to Cou­va Car­ni­val over those years. Ac­tu­al­ly, those are the prized as­sets of our car­ni­val," the CCC chair­man said. He said the CCC prize struc­ture en­ables al­most every­one to get some­thing for their ef­forts, how­ev­er small. He thanked the Na­tion­al Car­ni­val Com­mis­sion and oth­er bene­fac­tors for as­sist­ing in mak­ing the 2012 fes­tiv­i­ties a spe­cial oc­ca­sion. Cen­tral Elite, por­tray­ing The many Moods of Love, will col­lect the Band of the Year tro­phy, while Ron­dell Don­awa will re­ceive his tro­phy for cop­ping the Se­nior Ca­lyp­so Monarch crown.
