Ten litle girls will showcase their talent and style today as GNL hosts the Pretty Little Queens Pageant, at the Fyzabad Community Complex. Children from as young as three years old will take part in the competition. The pageant which will be divided into two age groups- three to six and seven to 12.
The show is being organised by friends Gizel Matthew, Nedda Stephens and Elizabeth London (GNL) Stephens believes that such an experience for the girls would help boost their self confidence and would also allow them to explore hobbies in modelling and the arts.
"There are no losers at all in this pageant. All will walk away on with a sense of accomplishment and an experience that they can take into the future," Stephens said in an interview. She said the girls will be displaying what they learnt over the past month in categories such as casual wear, evening gown and talent competition.
And to ensure that no one leaves empty-handed, there will be special prizes for each delegate. The idea of hosting the pageant in the labour capital of the country was conceptualised by the three friends who possess a deep passion for fashion. Both Stephens and Matthew are hairstylists while London is a fashion boutique proprietress.
According to Stephens, in past years, the community anticipated the Miss Pretty Contest but this no longer exists. "With this show, they can show how brave young people can be, as they display their talents and qualities. They can build a passion from this and have an educational experience. That is what we are all about, wanting better for children," she said.
The competition starts 5 pm. Members of the GNL committee can be contacted at 382-4170, 308-6358 and 335-0672 for further information.
