The St Andrew's Anglican Church in Couva is in dire need of repairs that come with a $50,000 price tag. To raise funds to repair the sanctuary, the Anglican Church Men's Society will host a concert on July 1, featuring the Lydian Singers. Chairman of the society, Winston Roberts, visited the T&T Guardian's St Vincent Street head office on Monday to highlight the church's needs. Roberts said the entire sanctuary of the church, including the altar area, was falling apart.
"We have needed to do these repairs since last year," said Roberts. The altar, he says, is termite-ridden, the carpet needs to be replaced and said various parts of the sanctuary needs to be redone. "We were looking at different ways to make money and we came up with the idea of a concert," Roberts said. He said the Lydian Singers were contacted and after a visit to the church saw the need to help. Winston said the church had been asking for donations from members of the public and people had already made promises to assist. "We hope that after the concert we will have raised the funds we need," Winston said.
