Fete with the Stars

It’s was certainly time to celebrate when the performing cast from reigning National Panorama champion Neal and Massy Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra and sponsor representatives gathered at Pier 1, Chaguaramas, on June 9, for the band’s Victory Lap. Time to celebrate was the title of the event at which the local conglomerate moved a toast to the champion steel orchestra, for the second consecutive year. The occasion was made possible by the fascinating display of team work that led to the band’s victory at the National Panorama finals back in February. And, as fate would have it, the $1 million first prize was not the only reward the nation’s hardest working panmen would be in receipt of as witnessed at the weekend.

Its proud sponsor rolled out the red carpet to celebrate them.  Pannists who live to entertain, found themselves on the receiving end, and took delight in the opportunity to trade places. It was DJ Sensational Sammy who set the tone for SuperJigga TC (Terrin Callender) and Shal Marshall (Stevenson Marshall) to stir things up, before Blaxx of Roy Cape All Stars fame took over the quality entertainment showcase. Blaxx’s relationship, however, was a little more intimate with team All Stars, citing that Roy Cape All Stars was a regular act at the band’s annual Carnival Fete called Soca by the River. Under a star-lit night the cast from the eight-time National Panorama champion partied the way only true champions do, setting the stage for another exciting Victory Lap in 2013.
