Andy Lau­rence and De­bra Philbert have won the Open Ball­room Com­pe­ti­tion of this year's To­ba­go Dance Sports. The com­pe­ti­tion, host­ed by the To­ba­go Dance En­sem­ble, was held last Sun­day at the au­di­to­ri­um of the Scar­bor­ough Sec­ondary School. Jacquize Stew­art and Ne­dra Wal­dron were win­ners of the Dance Sports Youth Cat­e­go­ry of Dance.

The en­sem­ble has been in ex­is­tence for 20 years. They pro­mote, teach and com­pete in Latin and ball­room dance. A re­lease from the In­for­ma­tion De­part­ment of the To­ba­go House of As­sem­bly (THA) said the com­pe­ti­tion fea­tured dancers in five cat­e­gories-ju­niors be­gin­ners one, be­gin­ners one, be­gin­ners two, open ball­room, and open Latin.

Dancers com­pet­ed in dance styles rang­ing from waltz and fox­trot, in the ball­room cat­e­go­ry, to rum­ba and sam­ba, in the Latin cat­e­go­ry. In ad­di­tion to com­peti­tors from To­ba­go-based dance schools, dancers from a num­ber of Trinidad-based schools were in­vit­ed to com­pete in the open cat­e­gories.
