With his sooth­ing voice and com­pelling lyrics An­tho­ny Gon­za­les, al­so known as The Psalmist Mekaiel, is mak­ing a name for him­self in the lo­cal mu­sic in­dus­try. The new­com­er is turn­ing his neg­a­tive ex­pe­ri­ences in­to pos­i­tive lyrics that he says any­one can re­late to. Two of his new sin­gles en­ti­tled Nev­er Leave U and Deep in My Heart is al­ready re­ceiv­ing air­play. Gon­za­les is from a mu­si­cal fam­i­ly and made his first ap­pear­ance un­der the guid­ance of his fa­ther, An­tho­ny Gon­za­les se­nior, at a fam­i­ly con­cert at age four. Since then the 18-year-old has per­formed at many school com­pe­ti­tions as a stu­dent of the South­ern Acad­e­my of SDA. He is a mem­ber of the Co­coyea SDA choir.

"I've done this for so long that hon­est­ly at a point, I thought I would do it just as a hob­by. But the mu­sic is so deep with­in that my hands start to fid­get a lot and I re­alise that this is what I re­al­ly love do­ing it. I want to be that artiste who de­liv­ers in­spi­ra­tional mes­sages to the youths and to the old­er folks." Gon­za­les is ex­pect­ed to re­lease his de­but al­bum, Smile, in Oc­to­ber. Work­ing with Beat­Oven pro­duc­tions and Alexan­der HRS to record a col­lab­o­ra­tion with Pat­tern­son Sker­ritt, Gon­za­les is hop­ing to get pos­i­tive feed­back from the al­bum. The artiste has placed his life ex­pe­ri­ences in­to writ­ing and has drawn in­spi­ra­tion from them. The track Nev­er Leave U, co-writ­ten by Ralph Git­tens, speaks of the mur­der of two of his un­cles and a se­ri­ous ac­ci­dent in­volv­ing his moth­er and sis­ter.

The lyrics of Deep in My Heart tells of a heart con­di­tion from which the artiste suf­fers. He be­lieves that these ex­pe­ri­ences have dri­ven him to per­fect­ing his craft and get­ting his mes­sage to the world. The Gol­con­da res­i­dent has ac­knowl­edged the suc­cess of so­ca in the lo­cal mu­sic in­dus­try, but in­sists he is a gospel singer and wants to pro­duce mu­sic that peo­ple can re­late to. "So­ca re­al­ly can't tell the sto­ries I want to tell in terms of life ex­pe­ri­ences. I like peo­ple to think and un­der­stand what I went through and know that some­body out in the crowd will be go­ing through the same thing. I chose gospel. "This is what I do full­time, de­fy­ing all odds and go­ing strong with it every day. This is my ca­reer choice. This is my job right now."
