Last Wednesday—the middle of the work week—had an entirely new feel, thanks to mas band Fantasy Carnival. On July 18, the band held its Carnival 2013 pre-launch event titled World Fantasy Day, at a private residence in St Clair, Port-of-Spain. Savage is the theme of the band’s pretty mas portrayal for next year’s Parade of the Band’s Competition staged by the National Carnival Bands Association (NCBA). Fantasy Carnival’s design team is again headed by Anthony Hall and Richard Dookhdeen, of Richard and Anthony Productions. The band’s launch date is July 28. Venue is 0’2 Park, Chaguaramas.

Even though costumes were not available for viewing at the event, officials of the band leaked an image on Facebook the morning of the event, which created a buzz later that evening. The World Fantasy Day guest list was a virtual who’s who in T&T, and it was certainly not short of beautiful ladies. Guests were invited to bring their coolers, many of which contained premium drinks. Tao Sushi handled the catering. Hats off to chefs Thomas Moses and Glory Balcharan who whipped up six awesome sushi delights, and who succeeded in satisfying diverse palettes, including the vegans in attendance.
