MOVIE  REVIEW
Patrons at the screening of The Dark Knight Rises at Digicel IMAX show off their posters.
Screening at every major cinema in the land to sold out audiences is The Dark Knight Rises, the latest sequel of the Batman (Bruce Wayne) series of movies. Directed by respected and renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan, the caped and hooded DC Comics crimefighter is portrayed by Welshman Christian Bale and his character in this movie is seen as a hero and villain, who is both invincible and vulnerable.

Of the Batman saga, this latest flick is the best and most exciting. The acting by Batman’s arch nemesis—Bane—played by English actor Tom Hardy, matches that of Bale’s previous most outstanding opposite Heath Ledger, as The Joker. Having taken the fall for murdering Harvey Dent, and going into exile, eight years on, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham’s finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy and murderer. Aside from the new gadgets and special effects, what makes this latest sequel even more enthralling is that it reveals the origins of Catwoman and Robin, and offers a most intriguing twist on who Bane really is. Digicel IMAX customer relations representative Jannessa Kalloo said on opening night: “We have been totally sold out for The Dark Knight Rises for some time now as people booked seats.”

Referring to the movies midnight premiere on Tuesday, Kalloo added: “That screening was sold out in three days after we posted it on the Net, via our Facebook page, on June 19. “Last night (July 24), people came out in costumes. One fan even wore a limited edition Batman sneaker, while others were elated to get the Batman poster.” About the mayhem in the United States last week, The Dark Knight Rises premiered in Colorado, leaving a dozen people dead, Kalloo said: “I don’t believe the movie had anything to do with the horrendous actions of the gunman, James Holmes, as he committed the crime before the movie even began. “It’s obvious that the young man is seriously mentally disturbed. There is a big difference between a fan and someone suffering with obsession.” Movie buffs will now have to wait until the next Christopher Nolan blockbuster—The Man of Steel—the latest in the Superman series.
