Patrons at the Caroni district's Exhibition and Sales Day 2012 had the chance to buy skin care products, breads and pastries or purchase ornamental plants at the Chaguanas Community Centre on Thursday 2. The day was planned by the Caroni District Office, Ministry of Community Development for graduates of the recently-concluded Community Education (Skills) Programme (CEP). "Today is an opportunity for our graduates to show people what they have learnt, earn extra income and encourage others to be part of CEP next year," said Jacqueline Humphrey, Community Development Officer, Caroni District. CEP is a six-month skills-based programme organised by the Ministry of Community Development each year to provide training in over 66 areas. The objective is geared towards home-based production of goods and services which lead to self-employment and forms part of the Ministry's mandate of people-centred development. For this year's programme, more than 7, 000 people registered with the Ministry of Community Development to take part in basic and advanced courses. Trainees are presented with a certificate of achievement at the end of the course during a formal graduation ceremony which takes place at each administrative district.
