Award-winning journalist Jai Parasram is returning to Trinidad in September to teach a special course in Storytelling for Television, aimed at both the beginner and reporters already working in television who need to strengthen their storytelling skills. Parasram's Toronto-based Jyoti Communication and Media Consultants is collaborating with Ad Associates of Montrose Chaguanas to conduct the training. Classes are being held at the Ad Associates headquarters in Montrose. Parasram said this pilot project is not intended to duplicate or replace similar training currently being offered by Costtatt and the University of the West Indies.
"Those accredited institutions have a definite role to play in media training and what we are doing will complement their efforts," Parasram said. "What we are doing is a short, highly specialised, clearly focused, intensive course." The course, which is the first of its kind in Trinidad & Tobago, is being offered over a one-month period with participants working in groups. A maximum of 16 people will be enrolled in the course to allow one-to-one interaction. The course begins on September 3.
