Soroptimists of Newtown (SI?Newtown) will host the one-woman performance by Cecilia Salazar about Trinidad's first female whistle-blower, the late Gene Miles. Showtime is today at 8 pm at the Little Carib Theatre, Woodbrook. This fund-raising activity was a natural selection for the club since it is in keeping with the very nature, focus and drive of the organisation. As part of a global all-woman organisation, SI Newtown aims at enhancing the lives of women and girls.
This play portrays the capacity of women to be change agents, even in the face of opposition and struggle.
As our nation celebrates 50 years of independence, it is important to remember and educate others about those before us who stood for a cause rooted in moral obligation. Funds raised from this production will support SINT's projects and initiatives in areas such as education, economic empowerment of women and human trafficking. Apart from highlighting an important woman in local history, patrons will have the opportunity to meet and learn more about a group of professional women passionate about improving the lives of women and girls in Trinidad.
