The di­vi­sion be­tween so­ca, ca­lyp­so and in­sur­ance mem­ber­ship are among the is­sues that King Lu­ta (Morel Pe­ters) wants to tack­le as he bids to be­come the next pres­i­dent of the Trin­ba­go Uni­fied Ca­lyp­so­ni­ans Or­gan­i­sa­tion (Tu­co). Lu­ta heads the Team For­ward slate which is chal­leng­ing the in­cum­bent ex­ec­u­tive of the ca­lyp­so group.

The slate will be of­fi­cial­ly launched at Nalis' Au­dio-Vi­su­al Room, Aber­crom­by Street, Port-of-Spain, on Oc­to­ber 12. "Tu­co will con­cen­trate on uni­fy­ing the mu­sic. We want to bring all the mu­sic un­der the ban­ner of ca­lyp­so. Ca­lyp­so is sim­ply man­i­fest­ing it­self in dif­fer­ent forms. So­ca is one of them. We need to stop the rift be­tween so­ca and ca­lyp­so. We want to bring the mu­sic un­der one um­brel­la," Lu­ta told the Sun­day Guardian.

He said his team al­so wants to make Tu­co's mem­ber­ship more at­trac­tive. "We would be push­ing it ear­ly to get that in­sur­ance go­ing. We want to bring it to re­al­i­ty.?In hard times, and in times of be­reave­ment you would have some­thing to fall back up­on, rather than pass­ing a hat."
