The division between soca, calypso and insurance membership are among the issues that King Luta (Morel Peters) wants to tackle as he bids to become the next president of the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (Tuco). Luta heads the Team Forward slate which is challenging the incumbent executive of the calypso group.
The slate will be officially launched at Nalis' Audio-Visual Room, Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain, on October 12. "Tuco will concentrate on unifying the music. We want to bring all the music under the banner of calypso. Calypso is simply manifesting itself in different forms. Soca is one of them. We need to stop the rift between soca and calypso. We want to bring the music under one umbrella," Luta told the Sunday Guardian.
He said his team also wants to make Tuco's membership more attractive. "We would be pushing it early to get that insurance going. We want to bring it to reality.?In hard times, and in times of bereavement you would have something to fall back upon, rather than passing a hat."
