Blaxx vows to upset Machel and Iwer in soca showdown
Soca artiste Dexter “Blaxx” Stewart has vowed to “fog up” last year’s triple-title Carnival champion Machel Montano in this year’s Carnival competitions. He is also touting his 2013 release, No Getaway, as a major title contender. The song, which has been making waves on the party scene since its release in late 2012, sent patrons into a frenzy on Thursday night as the third edition of the popular On the Road Thursdays Carnival series resumed at D’ Vibez, in San Fernando.
His second soca single, Leh Go, has also been receiving frequent airplay on local radio. Using Machel’s new song, The Fog, and his pending sentencing after being found guilty of assault last December as reference for his picong, Blaxx said he “would not have to make a jail for his success.”
He also signalled a warning to the Power Soca Monarch runner-up for two years in a row, Neil “Iwer” George, saying he too, will be in for a musical beating. A tough-talking Blaxx said so as he shared the stage with Montano’s HD colleague, Patrice Roberts. Blaxx said it was time for him to cop a title in one of this year’s Carnival competitions.
“Allyuh ent find that is time for me to win something?” Blaxx asked as he had the crowd behind him after creating a hype with several hits of yesteryear. “Iwer bussing up his mouth but I am going to beat him up real bad. And Machel Montano, I am going to fog him up,” Blaxx said.
He then belted out another popular song, I am Blessed, and then told the audience, to their amusement: “It is my year now. It is my time to shine now and I don’t have to make a jail for it.”
