There were a lot of satisfied jazz lovers at the third edition of Point Fortin Jazz at the Garden Jewels on Southern Central Road, Cap-de-Ville, Point Fortin, last Wednesday night.
The event, which was part of Point Fortin Borough Day celebrations, featured top artistes including Mungal Patasar and Pantar, Earl Rodney Jazz Ensemble, Kaizen Fuzun Steel Orchestra and Point Fortin Talent Quest Winners.
Premiere local band Elan Parle, led by Michael Low Chew Tung, scored top marks in the hometown of Austin "SuperBlue" Lyons with their jazzed-up remix of his 2013 Road March tune, Fantastic Friday.
As the band closed its set, Low Chew Tung announced that there was one more song to play and it was a tribute to "SuperBlue."
At first, many seemed unsure about the melody but as the familiar strains of the song that captured this year's top Carnival awards began, there was an almost instantaneous reaction from the audience.
One man left his chair and began to dance while other members of the audience clapped.
When Elan Parle finished there was thunderous applause from the packed venue.
Chairman of the Point Fortin Borough Corporation's Culture Celebrations and Community Development committee Sherwin St Hillaire said he was pleased with the response to the event which continued to grow in popularity.
He said: "It (Point Fortin Jazz) is something that we are envisioning that, in time to come, it can become an entity on its own. And we can actually extract it from Point Fortin Borough celebrations and we can have it on its own in maybe a two–or three-day festival."
Local jazz vocalist Vaughnette Bigford, who performed with Elan Parle, thrilled the audience.
She began her set with Portuguese love song Flde Lis by Djavan. When she performed the Stylistics' classic People Make The World Go Round, some closed their eyes and swayed from side to side.
There were also performances by guitarist Rodney Alexander and singers Afiya Atwall and Alison Delipia.
