On the invitation of the National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC), The Saint, by Ralph Maraj, will be performed at the Divali Nagar on May 25, as part of council's Indian Arrival Day celebrations.
The play has been most favourably received so far and now goes to NAPA, South, on June 14 and 15 at 7.30 pm.
The Saint is most appropriate to mark Indian Arrival Day. It focuses on an East Indian family that comprises the second and third generations after indentureship. The eldest son, Vishnu, wants little to do with the business empire that his parents have built and goes to India to pursue the spiritual path. In the process he takes his family through the "ancient mind of India" what he calls "his family's soul."For him it is the only way to revitalise his family which he says has lost direction. In other words, Vishnu is leading his family to dip back into the very source that gave indentured labourers the strength to survive the early traumas of life in this country, says a release.
Maraj directs the production and also plays Vishnu in the play.
Tickets for the NAPA performances are now on sale at Nigel R Khan Booksellers in Gulf City, Marabella, High Street, San Fernando, Price Plaza Chaguanas, Vanity Fair, Valpark and can be booked by calling 657 1086 or 685 4364.
