Holis­tic Mu­sic School will re­turn to the Lit­tle Carib The­atre in Wood­brook for its eighth Read­ing in Key Con­cert Se­ries, sched­uled for June 22-23.

School prin­ci­pal Dr Pa­tri­cia Dar­d­aine-Ragguet said: "This year's pro­duc­tion is be­ing ded­i­cat­ed to the spir­it of Beryl McBurnie, and these con­certs are de­signed to in­spire per­form­ers and au­di­ences to build and sup­port mu­sic ed­u­ca­tion pro­grammes in T&T."

About the re­turn to the Carib she quot­ed Win­ston Min­shall, fa­ther of Car­ni­val de­sign­er Pe­ter Min­shall, who ex­pe­ri­enced the Carib in its ear­ly years and wrote, "Those who know the Lit­tle Carib will ap­pre­ci­ate the con­trast be­tween its phys­i­cal struc­ture and ac­ces­sories ... and the self-open­ing, ex­pand­ing, in­ex­haustible, un­fail­ing spir­it of the place."

Ap­ply­ing Min­shall's words to mu­sic ed­u­ca­tion in 2013, Dar­d­aine-Ragguet added: "It is the in­domitable spir­it of the space, gift­ed from Beryl, which our mu­si­cians re­quire to ex­ist and thrive as artists in to­day's world.

Sev­er­al of our Holis­tic stu­dents who per­formed as novices at the very first Read­ing in Key con­cert at the Lit­tle Carib in 2004 will now get an op­por­tu­ni­ty to dis­play their ad­vanced skills nine years lat­er in the cur­rent ren­o­vat­ed space."

Pro­duced to cel­e­brate the pow­er of mu­sic and lit­er­a­cy in build­ing self-con­fi­dence, dis­ci­pline, so­cial-emo­tion­al skills and in­tel­lect in our youth, this eighth Read­ing in Key con­cert se­ries will fea­ture novice to ad­vanced stu­dents, teach­ers, the Holis­tic Mu­sic School Award Win­ning Band and As­so­ci­at­ed Board of the Roy­al Schools of mu­sic ABRSM cer­tifi­cate per­form­ers Prep Test to Grade 8 on pi­ano, gui­tar, wood­wind, brass, per­cus­sion and voice, with a sig­nif­i­cant per­cent­age of stu­dents per­form­ing with dis­tinc­tion and mer­it.

Dar­d­aine-Ragguet added that these con­certs will en­ter­tain and in­spire fam­i­ly au­di­ences of all ages and in­clude sev­er­al gen­res of mu­sic. Show­times are sched­uled for 5 pm both evenings, and tick­ets, cost­ing $100 for adults and $50 for chil­dren, are avail­able at Holis­tic Mu­sic School.
