Holistic Music School will return to the Little Carib Theatre in Woodbrook for its eighth Reading in Key Concert Series, scheduled for June 22-23.
School principal Dr Patricia Dardaine-Ragguet said: "This year's production is being dedicated to the spirit of Beryl McBurnie, and these concerts are designed to inspire performers and audiences to build and support music education programmes in T&T."
About the return to the Carib she quoted Winston Minshall, father of Carnival designer Peter Minshall, who experienced the Carib in its early years and wrote, "Those who know the Little Carib will appreciate the contrast between its physical structure and accessories ... and the self-opening, expanding, inexhaustible, unfailing spirit of the place."
Applying Minshall's words to music education in 2013, Dardaine-Ragguet added: "It is the indomitable spirit of the space, gifted from Beryl, which our musicians require to exist and thrive as artists in today's world.
Several of our Holistic students who performed as novices at the very first Reading in Key concert at the Little Carib in 2004 will now get an opportunity to display their advanced skills nine years later in the current renovated space."
Produced to celebrate the power of music and literacy in building self-confidence, discipline, social-emotional skills and intellect in our youth, this eighth Reading in Key concert series will feature novice to advanced students, teachers, the Holistic Music School Award Winning Band and Associated Board of the Royal Schools of music ABRSM certificate performers Prep Test to Grade 8 on piano, guitar, woodwind, brass, percussion and voice, with a significant percentage of students performing with distinction and merit.
Dardaine-Ragguet added that these concerts will entertain and inspire family audiences of all ages and include several genres of music. Showtimes are scheduled for 5 pm both evenings, and tickets, costing $100 for adults and $50 for children, are available at Holistic Music School.
Reading in Key is a research-based, holistic approach to reading designed by Dardaine-Ragguet, director and teacher at Holistic Schools.
