Mary’s final dance at the Bowl
Mary Could Dance will take a final dance at Naparima Bowl on Saturday and Sunday.
After 16 years of support from theatre lovers, the Independence Day Lagniappe will be the final call. Written by Richard Ragoobarsingh, the play is the most popular, loved and awarded play in T&T’s theatre history.
The dynamic play, which has been heralded as an unparalleled exemplar of local theatre, is finally coming to an end. Mary Could Dance has been showcased in Grenada, St Vincent, Barbados, St Lucia and Ireland where it has been received consistently with standing ovations.
Mary drops the curtain with the proud achievement of having won 11 of 15 Cacique Theatre awards, a record that still stands.
Directed by Raymond Choo Kong it features a stellar cast which includes Penelope Spencer, Cecilia Salazar, Richard Ragoobarsingh, Glenn Davis, Dionne McNicol Stephenson and Roger Dickie.
The warm and sometimes scandalous comedy looks at what happens when three dancers/prostitutes face the return of one of their group’s first love after living years in the United States. The scenarios range from exotic dancing, to catfights, to romance, to the antics of the scandalous pimp/bar owner Mule. Showtime is 8.30 pm on Saturday and 6.30 pm, Sunday.
Tickets are available at Bhagan’s Drug Store, Price Plaza, Chaguanas, 672-9514 Hi-Lo food stores at Marabella and Gulf City mall.
