Korea Film Week opens with love story
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea will host its second Korea Film Week under the patronage of the Korea Foundation and in co-operation with MovieTowne. Building on the success of last year’s film week, the embassy is once again bringing to T&T audiences another opportunity to experience Korean culture.
The film week will be held October 31 to November 3 at MovieTowne, Port-of-Spain. For this event four films will be screened, all of which were a huge success in Korea with themes of love, friendship, sportsmanship and family values.
The opening film Late Blossom, is a heart-warming love story of two elderly couples. This film is based on a famous original Korean cartoon titled I Love You by Kang Full.
For the past 20 years the Korean film industry has been developing at a fast pace. Korea is now one of the few countries in the world of which the locally made films enjoy over 50 per cent market share in the domestic film market. In 2013, on the top ten movies list, eight movies were locally produced and those films attracted 100 million spectators in Korea so far.
Recently, the new Korean film Snowpiercer directed by famous Korean director Bong Jun-ho was a big hit at the box office since its release on August 1. The film has been wildly popular in South Korea and has attracted over 20 million fans.
The embassy hopes that the film week will help to promote the cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the peoples of Korea and Trinidad and Tobago, further contributing to the friendly and co-operative relations between the two countries in the years to come, said a release from the embassy.
Admission is free and on a first-come, first-serve basis; tickets can be collected at the MovieTowne’s box office on the day of the showing. However, tickets are limited, as only 130 seats are available for each screening.
The screening schedules of all films are as follows:
• Late Blossom: October 31, 7 pm
• 200 Pounds Beauty: November 1, 7 pm and November 3, 3 pm
• Architecture 101: November 2, 3 pm
• Take Off: November 2, 7 pm and November 3, 7 pm.
