Fashion from fetes has been in the spotlight this Carnival at adult contemporary music station 95.1FM as "fashion forward" fans were encouraged to post photos of the outfits they wore to all-inclusive fetes over the season on the station's Facebook page.
The 95.1 Carnival Catwalk Queen competition inspired an enthusiastic response, as several participants received upward of 500 likes from other listeners. An overall winner will be chosen from the top three participants at a show at the All Out Bar and Grill, Tragarete Rd, Port-of-Spain.
This promotion is something different from 95.1, as it has not traditionally been known as a Carnival station, but the management felt that fashion was something that their fans would be interested in.
"These days, Carnival fetes are all about fashion," said Greta Caines of 95.1. "We felt that a niche was created for 95.1 where we could look at the fashionistas, and use the people's selfies to show off their fashions.
"A lot of the fashions were trendy and egdy, with the ladies really making a fashion statement."
The winner of the Carnival Catwalk Queen competition will get a pair of tickets to Barbados with accomodation for Cropover and a bumper package of prizes including hairstyling and accessories. The three finalists will each receive a makeover from established makeup artist Jaumark Pierre and a photo shoot by Kerron Riley.
Winner receives a pair of tickets to Barbados for Cropover as well as hotel acc. hairstyling, accessories and and other gifts.
Caines said fans and 95.1 listeners who want to join the fun of the Carnival Catwalk Queen competition can head to All Out on Thursday from 5.30 to cheer on the ladies.
The station's large female listenership, embraced the promotion with great enthusiasm but based on this year's success, a category for the men might be included next year.
