The Archbishop's Appeal together with MovieTowne will host the premiere of Son of God simultaneously at all MovieTowne locations: Port-of-Spain, Chaguanas and Tobago on March 11 at 7.30 pm.
Based on the History Channel mini-series The Bible, which averaged 15 million viewers per episode and earned four Emmy nominations, the movie will showcase the life of Jesus Christ from birth, to crucifixion and resurrection.
The initiative hosed by the Archbishop's Appeal is one of the many ideas put forward to help raise funds for the restoration of Cathedral of Immaculate Conception.
A release from organisers said the feature film is one of the greatest evangelisation and outreach opportunities of our day. Watching a movie such as this will heighten the senses, and opens the heart and mind, allowing the message to connect with the viewer in a very powerful way.
The movie provides a rare opportunity to share the story of Jesus with family, friends and co-workers who typically do not attend church but may be willing to visit the cinema.
The 162-year-old cathedral, which is in need of repairs and refurbishment, has been the focus on an ongoing national campaign requesting assistance from citizens to donate what they can. The Archbishop's Appeal has recently secured an international supporter who has committed to match every dollar contributed to this project by July 2014, so every donation will be in fact doubled.
Refreshments will be served from 6.30 pm and door prizes including designer sun glasses, food hampers, paintings and much more will be won by a few lucky patrons. Also, Port-of-Spain moviegoers can look forward to Brian MacFarlane who will be reproducing a tableau vivante of Michael Angelo's Pieta.
Tickets cost $200 and are available at all MovieTowne locations as well as the following:
