Deborah Jean-Baptiste-Samuel and her Oratory Foundation presents Julius Caesar–The Ides of March with her Oratory Foundation for two nights from Saturday at Naparima Bowl, San Fernando.
This will be the seventh Shakespeare production for Jean-Baptiste-Samuel, who in addition has staged 18 annual Oratory performances. Actors in Julius Caesar include Dominic Khan, Russell Campbell, Dellon Mathison, Joash Huggins, Daniel Griffith, Jonathan Khan, Jamila Gomez and Terez Lord. Julius Caesar will be portrayed through Caribbean lens, and raises memories of our social upheaval and rebellion.
When after treachery and betrayal Julius Caesar is murdered, the potency of Shakespeare's lines bear witness: "How many ages hence shall this our lofty scene be acted over, in states unborn and accents yet unknown!"
The Oratory Foundation has staged Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice, King Lear, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Dream on a Caribbean Night, Othello, and is now ready with Julius Caesar for March 15-16, at Naparima Bowl.
This will be followed by Twelfth Night on March 29-30, as part of the Shakespeare festival presented by The Oratory Foundation for 2014 and includes a Shakespeare tea and fashion show, and a poetry explosion.
2 For ticket information for the shows which start at 7pm both nights, contact Oratory at 652-8160 or 731-2388.
