There was a standing room only when popular musician Kelly Green celebrated his birthday on April 16 at De Nu Pub (The Mas Camp) in Woodbrook.
Green, a drummer, is the leader of Harmony Aggregation, a much sought-after band hired to provide accompaniment for calypso and soca artistes for major events. For the occasion, four calypso monarchs and acclaimed pan arranger Ken "Professor" Philmore performed.
With emcee Tommy Joseph taking the concert aspect of the celebration through its paces, the show's first half featured Cardinal, Bro Valentino and former national calypso monarchs Singing Sandra and Relator. The first stanza of the programme ended at 11 pm with Philmore performing a set of well-known hits on tenor, including Farmer Nappy's Big People Party and Scrunter's Woman on the Bass.
Among those in the audience were Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO) chairman Lutalo Masimba (Bro Resistance); executive member Twiggy (Ann Marie Parks-Kojo); former national monarch Duane O'Connor; Baron (Timothy Watkins); Diva's Cabaret tent manager Rudy Ottley; Brother Mudada (Allan Fortune); renowned keyboardist/arranger Raf Robertson; artist Makemba Kunle; trumpeter Errol Ince; calypso afficionadoes Ray Brathwaite Mervyn Telfer and Diane Dupre; and, DJs Mr Q and Kabuki.
On the show's resumption singer Jennylee Williams rendered a "birthday song," Louis Armstrong's What a wonderful world. She was followed by 2014 Extempore Monarch Brian London. Also a national monarch runner-up, London sang Complain and Call Dem Out. He was encored for the second number.
