Love Yuh Own II The Kaiso Jazz Concert Experience, featuring Black Stalin, Theron Shaw and others, will be take place at the Daaga Auditorium on May 31 from 8 pm.Produced by Foreday Mornin' Entertainment, the concert is in some respects a repeat performance, having first been staged just after Carnival this year.A release from the organisers of the show announced that Black Stalin will be joined in the lineup on May 31 by Vaughnette Bigford–no stranger to local jazz festivals and concerts.
Bigford is known for her warm, mellow vocal tonality and has been thrilling audiences both locally and internationally since she debuted in 2004 at Pan Royale, the forerunner to the T&T Steelpan & Jazz Festival. In 2008, she became one of few Caribbean nationals to be awarded a scholarship to attend the Summer Performance Programme at Berklee College of Music in Boston–an offer she successfully pursued.
Since then Bigford has showcased her vocal mettle at music festivals such as: Jazz Artists on the Greens (T&T), Berklee Summer Concert Series (Boston), Beantown Jazz Festival with Nona Hendryx and Gabrielle Goodman and the Louis Armstrong Birthday Jazz Concert with Gwyn Jay Allen.Asked about what the audience can expect from her repertoire at Love Yuh Own II, Bigford said: "This show specifically highlights local music and composers, encouraging us all to appreciate what we have right here in T&T.So we've prepared a mix of calypso, local pop and even soca, while giving some of the music a Caribbean jazz feel. All we ask is for people to come and enjoy".Highly regarded for her exquisite sense of fashion and her charismatic on-stage personality, Bigford is a refreshing addition to the cast of performers, which includes Black Stalin, music director Theron Shaw and the TS Project, Nigel Supersad and a special surprise guest artiste.
