A few weeks ago they raised the roof at Lions Cultural Centre in Woodbrook when they performed at the Caribbean cook-off hosted by the Lions Club of Central Port-of-Spain. Tomorrow, there is a special treat in store when the Ecuador's Yuyaric-Kayna Indigenous Latin and World Music Group performs at Martin's Piano Bar on Woodford Street, Newtown, at 8.30 pm.
Those wishing to take a breather from the hectic World Cup schedule (only two matches on Saturday, at noon and 4 pm) can enjoy a meal, and entertainment with a difference.
Yuyaric-Kayna consists of three indigenous musicians from Ecuador whose repertoire goes across popular, romantic, reggae, calypso, Bollywood and their own music. The group's music is played on a combination of sikus, kenas, ocarinas, charangos and pan flutes. Patrons are sure to have their minds blown when they hear the group's interpretation of Bunji Garlin's Diffierentology as well as the rest of the group's diverse repertoire.
Yuyaric-Kayna has been on a world tour covering Germany, Japan, France USA, Columbia Paraguay and now, inspired by the diversity of T&T's music and culture, they are here to share their unique culture and music. The group is engaged in a programme of cultural exchange under the auspices of the Rose Foundation with which it has a working relationship for the propagation of its indigenous music, craft and culture. For tomorrow's dinner and show, admission is $300. For the show only it costs $125.
