The Fiesta Plaza at MovieTowne, Port-of-Spain will again come alive to the music of the men on strings as it celebrates another year of The Power of The Guitar. A release from Festival Plaza said each October is set aside to highlight the most talented of T&T's guitarists and showcase the versatility and talents of some of our new and upcoming as well as seasoned guitar performers as management celebrates once again The Power of The Guitar.
The four guiatarists to be showcased every Saturday night through the month are Aaron Low Chew Tung, Joey Ng Wai, Dax Cartar, and Michael Chang Wai.Aaron Low Chew Tung will open the series on October 4 at 8.30 pm. Aaron began his musical journey with the guitar at the age of 14, remaining self-taught until applying for the BFA in Performing Arts at the University of T&T in 2011. After participating in the second Jazz Lab programme under the late Dave Marcellin, he studied under the tutelage of Theron Shaw. Currently a freelance guitarist, Low Chew Tung has performed with many artistes of different genres and is at present working on his first solo album.
Imij and Co frontline guitarist Joey Ng Wai will grace The Fiesta Plaza stage on October 11. He started his first band at the of age 15 and has toured extensively with the band Imij opening for acts like C&C Music Factory, McHammer, Aswad, Boys to Men, Maxi Priest and the legendary Whitney Huston.Dax Cartar is indeed one of the most talented, young and visually exciting musicians on the scene. He emerged from the reggae band Krash and often can be seen performing with his brother Philip and sister Marie-Angelique Cartar in the band The Cartars. This self-taught artiste loves to perform the music of virtuoso guitarist like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani and can be seen on October 18.
The season would come to a close on October 25 with Michael Chang Wai who after last year's performance left the Fiesta Plaza patrons spellbound. Chang Wai was a foundation member of the now defunct band The Divine Echoes and has studied in Cuba courtesy a government to government arrangement. He is currently pursuing an associate Degree in the Performing Arts with a major in Guitar at the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts (Costatt).
