Animae Caribe 2014 Festival will go to Tobago this year
The Festival starts on October 27 with the opening and gala screening at 7 pm at the UTT Napa Foyer and Chinese Restaurant, Port-of-Spain and ends on November 2 with a Tobago Special Closing at Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort.
The Tobago leg of the AC2014 begins on November 1 with a professionals' roundtable presentation at Mason Hall. In addition, Pigeon Point will be venue of Tobago Animation under the Stars, a release said.
Also, Indian High Commissioner Gauri Shankar Gupta will present a scholarship award to India for the best student animation. The high commissioner will also host a cocktail reception at his residence in celebration of renowned Indian animator Shilpa Ranade who will be screening her animation film Goopi Gawaiya Bagha Bajaiya. Shilpa completed her MPhil in Animation from the Royal College of Art, London and has directed short animation films for Channel4 UK.
President of the Jamaican Animation Network, Corretta Singer will also be at this year's festival. Singer is Jamaica's first female 3D animator. Her skills are considered to be top notch in Jamaica for her work with advertising agencies. In 2009, she had success with her short Kina Sky which aired on the US channel Nickelodeon during its Animation Festival.
AC 2014 will see the return of Bruce Smith, animation director at DisneyToon Studios. He has supervised animation of Kerchak in Tarzan, Pacha in Emperors New Groove and Dr Facilier in Princess and the Frog. Smith is also the owner of Jambalaya Studio and was the creator and executive producer of The Proud Family for Disney Channel.
At Animae Caribe local animators will interact with some of the top international animation professionals.
