Jazz vocalist and flautist Ruth Osman will be in concert on November 29 in the concert, Ruth Osman in Concert: River Come Down, at All Saints Memorial Hall, Marli Street, Port-of-Spain.
The concert will also showcase the talents of songstress Vaughnette Bigford, pan virtuoso Len Boogsie Sharpe and classically trained guitarist Anders Kappel. A release said they will be backed by a band of veteran musicians including keyboardist Wayne Guerra, bassist Douglas Redon, drummer Richard Joseph, percussionist Sheena Richardson and pan player Natasha Joseph.
River Come Down, Osman's fourth annual production, is named after an Andre Tanker song that has provided her with inspiration in this phase of her musical career. Songs from the Andre Tanker songbook will be given a prominent place in the production, alongside Osman's original compositions.
Osman, who has been performing professionally for about eight years, has developed a local following among jazz lovers in T&T. She has performed with local jazz icons like Raf Robertson, Theron Shaw and Clive Zanda. And in 2013, she produced her debut album titled Letting Go.
A release from the concert's organisers said her past performances have brought new fans to the local jazz scene. This production, which focuses on local songs and rhythms, along with her originals. The release adds, that the concert sets the stage for a shift in consciousness away from American jazz standards and towards the development of a Caribbean jazz aesthetic that is entrenched in everyday situations and the desire for positive change.
