Cindy-Ann Boisson
Comedy has always been Cindy-Ann Boisson’s safe space. Millennials may recognise her as the woman behind the iconic local Powermint ad where she famously said, “After a dinner of bake and smoke herring I suck two powermints in preparation for other things with my male companion.” And if there was ever a time that it came in handy for the now 54-year-old, it was in September 2025, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Dr John Mc Kenzie Bharath at his 99th birthday.
His loving carer-granddaughter, Anjali Bharath said, “He’s my sweet grandfather. He has a sweet tooth, but he doesn’t have diabetes. He starts his day with coffee which he likes creamy; sweetened with condensed milk, has a hearty breakfast – at times, a full English breakfast – and he’s healthy, fun-loving, enterprising and kind.”

For some, the mere thought of cancer is enough to send them running. They may ignore the warning signs, brush aside their suspicions and hope it all disappears. But for Claudette Stewart, confronting the possibility head-on, listening to her body and holding fast to unwavering faith are the very actions that carried her through her journey.

An artist’s depiction of the events related to the stolen voice.
It was exactly as the website described it—a well-kept, rustic little cabin surrounded by lush greenery, alive with the sounds of birds, insects and furry creatures going about their day. The late-afternoon sun sprinkled lazy spots of light through the leaves of the trees, ignoring the scowls of a few nearby clouds.

Healthy eating is often associated with expensive ingredients, speciality products and complicated meal plans. Eating well does not have to strain the household budget. The truth is that these tips should help you better approach a grocery shopping experience to prepare nutritious, satisfying meals while spending less.

The term cervical insufficiency, formerly called “cervical incompetence,” describes a situation in which the cervix—the lower part of the uterus—shortens and opens prematurely during pregnancy, often without contractions or significant pain. This can result in a second-trimester miscarriage or very early preterm birth.

Michelle Pounder owner of Lily's Cat Cafe sits with one of the cats on her lap.
As the world marked World Mental Health Day on Saturday, writer Carol Quash took us on an unexpected journey to a cat café, where the comfort and companionship of cats are helping to create a safe and welcoming space for people dealing with mental health challenges. It is a place where furry friends, conversation and compassion come together to make a difference.

Lagahoo of Blanchisseuse
hen I was nine years old, my family lived in rural Blanchisseuse, along Trinidad’s North Coast. Our household consisted of my parents, my sister, my grandmother and me. At the time, my father made barbecue coals, a laborious process that involved digging a large pit, burning pieces of wood inside it for several days, and eventually going outside to extinguish the fire and collect the coal.

Calypsonian and entertainer Terri Lyons in her gown at the Caribbean Music Awards.
If there were a best dressed list compiled for the recently-held Caribbean Music Awards, Terri Lyons would no doubt be on it. Her custom gown caught instant attention on the red carpet at the National Academy for the Performing Arts on September 19, where the event was staged on local soil for the first time.

Errol Ince, musician and the man behind many of Mighty Sparrow’s hit songs.
“He was more than a musical collaborator. He was like a brother to me. He was like a father to me. He was a very, very good friend to me; we were best friends. I worked extensively with him, travelling internationally and arranging his music. He took me across five continents with him. Our relationship extended far beyond the recording studio.” These are the sentiments of accomplished veteran trumpeter, arranger, composer and musical director, Errol Ince—the very last musician alive who worked consistently with the world’s undisputed, captivating calypsonian, the Mighty Sparrow (Sparrow), from 1955 to his last tune. The world was mesmerised by Sparrow’s music.
