Two festival directors are women–Faith Singh and Namita Gokhale–who worked with William Dalrymple and Sanjoy Roy of Teamwork Arts to make it one of the most famous literary events globally.

Imagine what it would be like if people said exactly how they felt, what they thought, and what they wanted. One could argue that it would be mean and downright selfish to openly confess to feelings that people always appear too afraid to express. On the other hand, one could also argue that being entirely honest at all times could make things easier across the board for all involved.

In 2023, well-loved designer Keisha Als amassed more than a decade of incredible years designing Carnival costumes. Her first experience playing mas at 17 years old kindled a love for Carnival in her which has not waned ever since, and her name has been synonymous with some of Carnival’s biggest bands over the years, such as Island People, Yuma and TRIBE. Als is also the owner of the brand, TROPIX, which produces swimwear, and Monday Wear for Carnival.

According to the World Health Organization, cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women globally, with an estimated 604,000 new cases and 342,000 deaths in 2020. In T&T during the same year, 28.5 per cent of the female population was diagnosed with cervical cancer, resulting in 97 deaths. January is now known as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, an opportunity to raise public awareness about the known causes of the disease and ways it can be prevented. The campaign aims to encourage women worldwide to take preventative action to safeguard their gynaecological health.
