Two of our outstanding colleagues, Jehue Gordon and Christian Homer are among the facilitators for this year's Schools' Leadership symposium, hosted by The Guardian's Sports Desk. The four-day event entitled 'Inspiration' which starts today at the Cascadia Hotel from 8 am, will be officially opened by Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Anil Roberts, whose Ministry is the title sponsor. Today's first session will be facilitated by former West Indies batsman and current T&T captain Daren Ganga, who will be speaking on the topic - How to organise your life if you intend to be a leader.
I believe this is a great way to start the event since Ganga is well known for his excellent leadership skills, although the West Indies Cricket Board and its selectors do not seem to recognise this. Another West Indies Test player, this time a woman, Merrisa Aguilliera who is the captain of the West Indies and T&T women's cricket team will follow. Merissa is travelling from Moruga to be with us and she - being a country girl - will tell us about the exciting road from Moruga to Australia where she led the Caribbean women's team with much distinction.
Ending day one will be that great motivational speaker Don La Foucade, who always has us eating out of his hands. We really do look forward to Mr La Foucade. Jehue, the national and world 400 metres hurdle record holder, who is a student at the University of the West Indies starts tomorrow's session and he will be followed by Calypso Monarch, Karene Asche and former West Indies fast bowler, Anthony Gray, who is currently a coach at UTT. On Wednesday we will hear from FIFA vice president, Jack Warner, with Homer following and George Bovell ending the session.
Mr. Valentino Singh, Coordinator of the event wants to surprise us on Thursday so he has left the day blank, except to say, it's the closing day and our parents and teachers are invited to come along and hear us reveal the wonderful experience we had over the three days, see us collect our certificates and prizes and be exposed to some entertainment. Indeed, I am looking forward to four fun filled days.
See you there!
