Late on Fri­day night, La­dy Gaga tweet­ed the al­bum cov­er for her ea­ger­ly an­tic­i­pat­ed new al­bum Born This Way. It seems safe to say that the art­work, which de­picts the singer's head and arms merged in­to the front of a mo­tor­cy­cle, was not any­thing like what any­one could have imag­ined. Though some fans as­sumed that the in­cred­i­bly bold and sil­ly cov­er was a joke, Gaga fol­lowed that tweet with an­oth­er that showed her hold­ing a print­ed copy of the cov­er, as if to prove that it was re­al.

Though the re­sponse from Gaga's au­di­ence has been fair­ly neg­a­tive so far, with sev­er­al fans and de­trac­tors rush­ing to cre­ate par­o­dy im­ages over the week­end, the bik­er look might make more sense when the al­bum ar­rives in stores. As Rolling Stone re­port­ed in Feb­ru­ary, a few of the songs con­firmed for the record lean hard on huge gui­tar riffs and heavy met­al blus­ter. This cov­er may be Gaga's way of let­ting her fans know that she's em­brac­ing the most de­fi­ant as­pects of rock star­dom on this new disc.
