Physical fitness (by definition) is a measure of the body’s ability to function efficiently and effectively in work or leisure activities to be healthy and resist diseases. It is one’s state of health and well being. As you would imagine, athletes need to be in top-notch shape and fitness to be successful in their respective tournaments. This in turn helps them to be healthy and protect themselves against life threatening diseases. Today, we urge you to get involved in some kind of sport or physical activity, whether it is cricket, football, swimming or whatever you enjoy.

Too many young people are dying because of heart disease and obesity. It is important to take your health seriously. Deviate from consuming unhealthy fast food and get involved in sport. Instead of going out with your friends to a fast food restaurant, get together and go to an exercise programme or play a sport together. Even our country’s great sportsmen (after retiring) still continue to emphasise the importance of physical fitness.

Take Ian Bishop for example. He disclosed that he has to go for a jog on mornings or evenings to ensure that he keeps his weight in check and to remain healthy. Legendary batsman, Brian Lara, frequently runs the Lady Chancellor hill to ensure that he stays fit. It is indeed time to start being conscious about your health. Let us, as young people, ensure that we have a healthy future!
