Future Leaders This Is For You

As someone who has enjoyed being part of the leadership programme hosted by the Guardian’s Sports Desk for the past 12 years, I must say that I am pleased to be extending invitations to all our fifth and sixth form students in our secondary schools to attend this year’s edition. I am helping this year! How I wish every single student could be facilitated at this year’s event which is carded for Cascadia Hotel from April 2nd to 5th, so thrilling and exciting is it. Unfortunately while our coordinator, Valentino Singh (Mr V for those who have been to the event before), has increased the number of students who will be able to participate, the figure is only 300, and it is a first come first serve.
We are indeed privileged to be part of this event for which Atlantic and the Ministry of Sport are proud sponsors. Thank you Atlantic! Thank you Ministry of Sport and thank you to all the other corporate organisations which will be assisting (since we need as much help as possible for this very stimulating experience).  I am sure I speak for all of us who will be there. For those who never attended, let me say you have missed a great chance to be mentored by some of the most successful people in our country.

We have heard of some of the challenges faced by our national icons over the years and how they were able to lift themselves and scale the great heights which they have. There were people like Brian Lara, George Bovell, Merissa Aguilliera, Daren Ganga, Tony Gray, Christian Homer and Jehue Gordon…just to name a few who have provided great lessons for us and how we should approach our lives if we want to be successful. Mr V told me last week that Ato Boldon, who has eight Olympic and World medals, will definitely be one of this year’s facilitators while Shaka Hislop has been trying to get time off from the Champions League assignment to be with us. I really hope both of them make it. And it would be great if Mr. Lara would return since he is always so charming. Over the next few weeks you can continue to read this column for more updates on what is to come but don’t be left out this year. Go to your computer or get on your cell phones and register at: [email protected] Text or call: 773-3773 with your name, school, form and a contact number. Deadline for registration is March 15. Remember all of this is free thanks again to our proud sponsors Atlantic and the Ministry of Sport, as well as our other corporate friends.
