I need a new pair of shoes. After dropping off so many invitations to principals of our Secondary Schools for you to attend this year’s Leadership Symposium, I can now understand how much work goes on behind the scene to host this annual symposium, now in its 13th year. For those of you who missed last week’s column, this year’s event is entitled ‘Seeing Through The ‘I’ and will be held from Monday April 2nd to Thursday 5th at Cascadia Hotel, St Ann’s, and is free to all secondary schools’ students. Just get on your computer or your cell phone and register at the sites/number on this page. That also goes for you principals who received invitations, don’t deprive your students of hearing some of the finest minds and meeting some of the country’s heroes who are taking the time to mentor your students. We have heard from people like Brian Lara, George Bovell, Daren Ganga, Russell Latapy, Giselle La Ronde-West and that very inspirational speaker, Don La Foucade. And I will be the first to say that what we heard have positively influenced our lives. Of course, it’s much more than that since the excitement of meeting new friends from other schools and the general socialising is quite stimulating to say the least. And all those prizes on the final day, bats autographed by Lara and some of the finest merchandise from The Fan Club of Movietowne (which sells only authentic items from teams like Barcelona, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and all the other Champion League teams). Wow, I am sure your eyes are lighting up!  Of course, none of this would be possible without our proud sponsors Atlantic and the Ministry of Sport. We really ought to be grateful to these special organisations and the several other corporate friends like Toyota, NGC, Sportt, TSTT, bptt and Red Bull which make sure we have this great opportunity every year. I think we are indeed privileged. Mr V (the coordinator of the event) hates too much praise but he and The Sports Desk must also get kudos for keeping this symposium alive for 13 years. I just need to remind you that registration closes on March 15, which is 10 days away - so don’t stick, get on it! Remember space is limited to only 300 students...and guess what, we are almost there!
