Flooding the dry places

With the same unpleasant things happening over and over, life at times can appear to have become very dry or routine. It can appear to lose its moisture or true meaning and have many feeling that going through this cycle of perceived aridity so frequently, makes no sense whatsoever. This trend may cause some to lose hope entirely, as they may believe that all is lost; that life is spiraling down and is out of control. Is it? If negative situations are happening over and over, that should be cause for us to be concerned, but not an excuse for us to panic. Instead, when these very situations surface, two questions should always emerge to our level of consciousness: ‘What’s it all for?’ and ‘What can I do to make a positive lasting difference in spite of what I see?’Let’s face it, ‘stuff’ happens, however, there’s plenty we can do to add new life or moisture to the ‘dry situations’ that surround us. But, before this can happen, something has to happen within us. There must be a change of heart and there must be a dependency on something larger than us. We must trust God that he is still in control and with his wisdom we can overcome life’s challenges as they present themselves. He is able to quickly flood the dry places or he may opt to allow an incremental wetting, thereby allowing us to grow in the process. Whichever way he chooses, with God’s guidance, damaged relationships can be restored, negative perspectives can be changed and droughts can be ended. In other words, the enthusiasm lacking for life can be rekindled.

Yes, it is indeed possible for there to be a resurgence of optimism! Pessimistic views can be overshadowed with new waves of hope. What is critical to this happening is who or what we place our hope in. With the Olympics soon upon us, many will be placing their hope for glory in the athletes believed to be best prepared or admired. As witnessed every four years, in a single moment, the euphoria of victory can transcend into the hearts and lives of many across the globe. What seemed like hopelessness and anxiety, can be changed in the twinkling of an eye and the resulting tsunami of positive emotions, can flood our hearts and minds. Oh, how good it feels when we understand that we can dwell harmoniously together and compete for more than a perishable prize! As the Olympics demonstrate, we can see past ‘status’ and physical differences, ONLY IF our hearts and minds are willing to be pure and free of hatred or misconceptions, and only if we are willing to come together for the good of all. What can YOU do to add to the moisture necessary for the dry places in your life? What may be required is that we find ways to help each other in spite of our past and in spite of our differences. I have no doubt that if we do ‘good’ for others; good or even better will be reciprocated. Whether we choose to believe it or not, we are all connected and interdependent on each other. Situations experienced transcend borders. Said differently, when the flood hits the neighbourhood, though all of our houses may not be impacted, we are still all affected. Let us each commit to do our part to stem the tide of negativity that is persistently trying to prevail. Instead, let us flood our minds and hearts with the thoughts that bring lasting solutions. We can flood the dry places with hope; with unconditional love for each other and with a faith in God who is able to shower his blessings on every seemingly dry terrain or situation.
