Many focused youths set goals for the future; however with the unpredictability of the world in its current economic, social and environmental self, we can only hope that such unpredictable elements stay strong and do not become unstable for the sake of our own lives. As a young individual, I hope for a world that can holistically address its challenges to attain that glorified aim of a sustainable future. Guarantees are given to many people on a daily basis, whether it is through the marketplace or on a political platform. In whatever context a guarantee is given, by human nature it is expected to be delivered. When it comes to the world that I want to live in, I would like human nature to be challenged everyday so that we can determine our own evolution. When guarantees are given, we should try our best to make it a reality as opposed to pointing fingers with the meager thought that such actions would subsidise the absence of a solution. It is difficult for a focused youth to say he/she would like to bring a child in today's world of cultural disrespect. One's reasons may extend into one's academic and career obligations, however personally, the current state of the world in all its cultural elements is not as cohesive as I would like it to be. My children in particular, must experience the earth in its most cultural sense, stemming not only from my personal background, but others as well. It is mandatory that they learn of everyone, so that they can demand the respect of their own culture, and give just as much respect to other cultures around them. (It is very difficult to believe that my own country, Trinidad and Tobago signed the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People, and individuals of the Warao and Karina go quite unnoticed.)
Community living is imperative for a sustainable future. It demands camaraderie that would initiate the prosperity of a collective world. A community itself exists within the framework of its own culture, and thus produces its own morals and values. In my opinion, culture exists on a unitary scale, and any change of location gives off differentiated, as well as similar norms and values. In my vision of a communal future, I envision a people sharing their similar traits while respecting their differences. Without this we would be incapable of working together to achieve a sustainable future. The time scales for this change would be extensive, and it would not happen overnight. Socialisation takes time, but how will we get there, without a hint of when we should start? The Utopian image is thought to be ideal. However such an image is far from being a reality. It is indeed sought out, and is described as a beneficial world for all. However, to attain such a futuristic vision, it must be taken in collective steps, that are not done haphazardly, but done carefully with living creatures, including humans in mind. The sustainable future is indeed attainable, however without that holistic approach, it is a vision that we may never see.
