Secondary schools' football has been in existence since the 1980's and has, over the years, grown in popularity and importance. Several of our national footballers who ply their trade both locally and internationally initiated their careers at the secondary school level. After many years of existence a girls' league was also introduced to ensure that females were not left out of the action and the girls have also proved themselves in this. The 2012 edition of the Secondary School's Football League kicked off on Saturday 7th September. Now, there will be games across our country in all the zones. Stadiums across the country will be filled with students eager to support their schools and their friends. This season the gieMAGAZINE will bring to you, our readers, all the news associated with this year's football season (as well as the statistics) ultimately introducing you to our next generation of footballers. This will allow the population to be aware of who the upcoming stars are and who to look out for. The gieMAGAZINE is elated to feature the efforts of our young athletes as this can be seen as a great way to encourage and motivate them to continue to work hard and be diligent.
The Westmoorings Tigers will be closely looked at since they managed to complete a clean sweep of all the titles in last year's season. With several of their footballers graduating and moving on to tertiary level education, it is left to be seen what they will produce this season. In the Southland, Presentation College and Shiva Boys' Hindu College dominated last season winning INTERCOL and the league, respectively. In the East, El Dorado Secondary and St. Augustine Secondary dominated last year with El Do being the better of the two teams. In Central, Carapichima Secondary is the major force to be reckoned with and in Tobago, Scarborough Secondary dominated last season. The 2012 season is expected to be exhilarating and bursting with talent.
