It's coming! Yes it's coming! Can you see it? The sun is no longer visible and the clouds are grey. It's likely to be more than just a casual shower. There's a storm coming and it's a BIG one! The forecast is bleak and fear has set in causing us to seek urgent answers to very pertinent questions.
• 'What is going happen to us - and more specifically, me?'
• Can I weather this one?'
• 'Will all be lost?'
• 'Where can I find shelter?'
• 'Where can I be safe?'
Whether or not it's medical, financial, national or very personal, like it or not we all have storms to face in life and some of them are indeed gigantic ones which oftentimes catch us on the blind side.
The warning signs may have been there, but we may have been too busy enjoying the 'sunny side' of life; completely oblivious to the preparation necessary for the unannounced turn of events.
Let's understand and appreciate that making a conscious effort to be prepared is a far better option than just having to react with a measure of panic when situations develop.
The best form of offense is a good defense and storms can be better weathered, IF we take time to prepare for them. For the medical situation, a regular check up may result in early detection of one potentionally harmful illness or another. In some cases, our diets may just need to be slightly adjusted.
For the financial situation, more prudent spending may be necessary. We may also want to make every effort to save our funds for the rainy day. For the national situations, we may want to be more aware of what is truly happening and be even more conscious that we are either part of the problem or part of the solution. For the personal situations, we need to make every effort to not just go with the flow.
There's a lot happening and we can avoid some of the situations by making wiser choices. We can't just live by chance and take a chance when 'it' comes because the choices we make have consequences, some of which are irreversible.
There are many more situations we will face and the somewhat simple answers above are not in any way meant to trivialize what many, including this writer, are going through. Your observations and recommendations may be different, but what I have found is that there is someone we can trust wholeheartedly, who knows every situation or every storm before it develops.
He is God and he has our best interest at heart and already knows the outcome before the bad weather or situation forms or arises. He knows about weathering because he created it. He also, beforehand, physically puts different elements in place that help guard against the elements.
For example, plants have roots and I'm sure you'll agree we are much more important than the plants, but like the plants, we must be sufficiently rooted in 'something' to be able to face the storms of life. Interestingly, we breathe because of the oxygen given out by the plants. The plants need the soil or the dirt. What about us?
The situations in our life, though painful, may have a higher meaning. The devastating impact of them can be lessened if we prepare for them as best as we can and with God's help and guidance we can more ably weather the storms of life. It's a part of nature and is also a part of our nature. We may opt for a raincoat or for an umbrella, or even for a national shelter all of which are necessary at times.
Let us choose to accept that God has us covered irrespective of what is allowed for the time being. From my experiences, there's always a storm coming and it could be a BIG one. I'm thankful though, that there's a silver lining in every cloud. The storm never lasts forever. The sun will shine again. This unchanging cycle of life is undeniable. Let's do what we can NOW to better weather the storm before it comes back again!
