The PP Government attempted to justify the delay in making appointments to state boards by stating that this is serious business and it wanted to get the right fit. Now we know what that means. In the private sector people are only appointed who have the qualifications and years of senior managerial experience. Many such people in the society with no party cards of any colour, caught up in the euphoria of a promised new standard of governance, offered their services in the national interest. How disappointed they must be now because it is business as usual.
A certain number of political appointees is inescapable, but one would have thought that these appointees would at least be able to meet the minimum requirements of holding a middle management position in an organisation. From the many appointments made so far this is clearly not the case. So we should no longer wonder why the state sector would continue to underperform. The more things change, the more they remain the same.
