Crime plan after crime plan fails to address the main driver of criminality in our country today. Our judiciary is broken. There is virtually no penalty for wrongdoing because justice is slow and is inaccessible to those who do not have money. Even more disheartening is the fact that in the calculation of many citizens, seeking justice is a tortuous ordeal that is equal to or even worse than the initial injustice.
In a climate where the population demands more and more "goodies" from the government of the day, there is a temptation for the government to place a strong emphasis on large projects that have little impact on the quality of life. However, the basic function of the Government is the bedrock of a stable, prosperous and safe society.
There is simply no substitute for a functioning, effective and accessible government and public service-one whose main priority is to do those mundane, boring things that are so vital to national progress.
