Congratulations to the Port-of-Spain mayor for his guts and courage to try and take back the city from the unruly, selfish and disgusting thugs and individuals. For far too long they have been able to get away doing whatever they want with absolutely no respect or regard for the law and law-abiding citizens. Many cities of the world have "market squares" where the people pay a fee and obtain a booth where they are allowed to sell their various wares. These unique places are enjoyed by citizens as well as tourists alike and have proper security for all, as well as proper restrooms and entertainment. With regard to hours of operation, all businesses must have regulated times so as not to be a nuisance to others in and around the area who may not be a customer-and especially if it is in a residential neighbourhood.
Before granting licences for restaurants, fast food places and/or bars, it should be made mandatory that such places of business are registered only for the number of customers they can safely and properly service inside their establishments and should also have car parks for patrons and personnel. Definitely patrons should not be allowed to overflow onto the public pavements and roads, causing major congestion and inconvenience for the general public. I wish the good mayor success in his huge effort, which I know is not going to be easy but the majority of citizens are behind him.
I would like those in authority to be guided by this brave man and do something too about the mess along the Western Main Road in Pt Cumana and Carenage where every other building is a shop, garage or bar, most of which have no parking. Attention is also needed in the St Ann's district along the main road from Moore Avenue all the way up, which is fast becoming a nightmare for anyone driving in this area. One bold individual even has his illegal structure in the road opposite the St Ann's Hospital. The same goes for all the other towns and cities in the country that suffer this shameful disorder. Here's hoping for cleaner, safer and better cities/towns that we will be proud of and where everyone can have a good time.
