Just what dictates that the taxpayers have to fork out funds to compensate crime victims, in this instance the Greens of England? Are they vacationers or residents? Life on the whole is a big risk. We go on vacation, break a leg while skiing or skating, fall off a surfboard, lose money to pickpockets etc, but do we get compensation from any government?
Our Government would be abusing the public purse should it decide to provide compensation, as is being arrogantly sought. If the Government sets a precedent by quantifying and paying compensation to the Greens, then shouldn't all crime victims in T&T be compensated?Surely crime does not discriminate based on nationality.
While we indeed regret the incident and do not want repeats, let's look at whether any T&T nationals who were victims of crime while in other countries ever received compensation. Will someone please tell me?
But before determining any compensation for the Greens, what about compensatory packages for our forefathers, viz, reparations?
