The board and members of the Freetown Foundation extend condolences to the family of Sir Ellis Clarke on his passing. Sir Ellis was the patron of the foundation from 2005 and made invaluable contributions to its members and by extension the foundation. His advice was often sought by the foundation and after discussions with him our concerns were always alleviated.A humble and generous humanitarian, Sir Ellis always remembered where he started and was always concerned about the community of Belmont that nurtured him.
He always told the story how as a young boy he knew where every mango tree was in Belmont. The foundation launched, as part of its programme, the Sir Ellis Clarke Award of Excellence in 2010. This award, he advised, must be for primary schools in the Belmont community. Thank you, Sir Ellis, you have left the foundation richer and stronger in knowledge and history. A true Belmontonian you were/are. May the blessings of Olodumare and the ancestors be with you on this journey and always.
